Posted by Matt Dioguardi on July 27th, 2007
In their morning edition, the Asahi Shimbun had a front page article about the upcoming House of Councillors election. The article is also online.
They are predicting a major win for the Democratic Party of Japan. Here are their four main points:
- It is possible the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) will win less than 40 seats.
- The Komeito, the LDP’s junior coalition partner will have difficulty maintaining their current 12 seats.
- The DPJ looks to win about 60 seats
- The Communist Party and The Socialist Party will have to fight hard to maintain their current strength.
The Asahi gives the following predications …
| Party | projected win |
| LDP | 31–38–45 |
| DPJ | 52–58–64 | Komeito | 7–10-13 |
| JCP | 2–4–7 |
| SDP | 1–2–3 |
| Kokumin | 0–2–2 |
| New Party Nippon | 0–0–1 |
| Misc. | 0 |
| No party | 5–7–9 |
Note, the bold number in the center is their prediction with the other numbers being lower and higher limits respectively. Click on the party’s name and it will take you to their home page!
