Ritalin is still often prescribed to children for Attention Deficit Disorder and Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder in America. Though it has many detractors, it’s even given to preschoolers.
People in America who still support the use of ritalin need to examine closely what is happening in Japan.

I have to wonder whether all these kids *really* have ADD or ADHD. I am guessing that poor parenting leads many to seek a chemical straightjacket for their kids.

Or, just as important, is ADD something that always needs to be treated?
That said, Ritalin doesn’t turn kids into zombies, rather, for some kids, it basically gives them an attention span. There are kids who are truly unable to focus, pay attention, or complete lengthy tasks. Ritalin can help. What it does do is make a lot of kids short-tempered and feelig somewhat out of control in a different way.
